Joining the Dojo

Okay, so I've decided to join. What happens next?
  • Get some training gear

Our training gear is known as ‘GI’. It's the white uniform that all karate students wear. This is made from a strong cotton fabric that is very durable and can endure a lot of wear and tear.

  • Where can I buy my Gi?

You can buy karate gi from most martial arts stores. Auckland Martial Art Supplies has a very comprehensive range of karate gi. Make sure you get a white belt (called an ‘OBI’) to go with your gi.

  • How do I tie my obi?

Tying an obi seems complicated at first, but it's really not that difficlut to do at all. Moms and Dads may have to help younger children, but children should be encouraged to learn to tie their own obi.

Here is a video that makes it really easy to do.

Your obi may be a bit bulky when you first tie it, but within a few days of tying it you'll find that it will soften and retain it's form a lot better.

  • Membership Fees

Seido Karate Devonport allows you 2 weeks of free training to see if karate is something you would like to pursue. After deciding to join the only fees to pay are the term fees.

    • Adults (per school term)

    • Students/non-working adults (per school term)

    • Children (per school term)

“We're all treated equally in this dojo!”

“I joined Seido Karate Devonport when my children started a year ago and the experience has been great. We have all found the dojo to be a warm welcoming place and the instructors passionate and engaging. Self defence is the core of what is taught and I would recommend to anyone interested in learning a martial art, self defence or to become part of the local community to bring the family along come and give it a go! ”
